She who pwns people with history

I found the dress on the left in the collection of a French Museum. It’s from the mid 1780s, and my first thought was that it looks very similar to the “Peacock” dress on the right, worn by Joely Richardson as Marie Antoinette in “The Affair of the Necklace”.

It’s a little more embellished on the underskirt, and the movie dress has a decorated neckline, but I still think they’re quite close!
